Local Artist’s Sunny Work Featured at UW Health Sciences Learning Center

Madison, Wis. (Feb. 9, 2013) – Springtime is coming early this year with a local artist’s gallery full of wildflowers.

Barbara Scharpf, an impasto painter from Middleton, currently has several pieces of her work featured at the UW Health Sciences Learning Center.

Scharpf is the owner of Creative Womanhood, a small business that exists to encourage and empower women to discover their own creative talents.

“I find that painting happy things – like flowers and landscapes – makes me happy. I am inspired and motivated by the fact that doing something I love can make other people happy,” says Scharpf.

Scharpf’s displayed paintings feature scenes from all seasons: bouquets of spring flowers, fields of wildflowers and sunflowers, fall trees, and even some holiday pieces. The pieces vary in size and are all painted with acrylic paint onto wooden canvases, which her husband, Ben, crafts for her.

“I love putting my work out in the world for others to see in the hopes that it may inspire them to be creative in some way. Whether it’s through the strokes of a brush, movement of dance, or sounds of music, I think art can be very therapeutic.”

Scharpf’s exhibit can be found in the hall immediately to the left upon entering the main entrance of the UW Health Sciences Learning Center, which is located at 750 Highland Road. The Learning Center is open every day of the week: Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 11:45 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 5:45 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. – 11:45 p.m. Scharpf’s work will be featured until early March.
